Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology Unit provides endoscopic and clinical treatments for patients and is involved in ongoing research activities and studies.

The most commonly treated diseases in our unit are peptic and non-peptic dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel diseases, neoplastic diseases of the digestive tract, motility and functional disorders, pathological conditions of the small bowel, malabsorption and maldigestion syndromes

An important part of our clinical services is our sophisticated endoscopic unit, with both upper and lower endoscopies, proctology treatments, endoscopic laser therapy, ERCP, etc.

The Gastroenterology Department specializes in the following types of gastroenterological diagnostics:

• early diagnosis of colon cancer
• dynamic examination of the esophagus, stomach and anus
• endoscopic examination of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum
• endoscopic examination of the small intestine using a video capsule
• colonoscopy and rectoscopy

Diagnostics is carried out using the most modern technology including video endoscopes which enable precise examination of the upper digestive tract (gastroscopy), large bowel (colonoscopy), bile ducts, and pancreas.

In addition, various treatments are performed, such as polypectomies, enlarging constrictions in the esophagus, laser treatment of tumors, endoscopic bariatric procedures, treatment of hemorrhoids, removing stones, and inserting pancreatic drainage tubes. Tests are performed to determine pressure of the esophagus, the rectum, and other organs to examine disorders of the digestive tract.

A special high risk clinic was opened recently for counselling to families and patients at high risk for GI malignancy.

An important part of our clinical services is our advanced endoscopic unit, which provides besides upper and lower endoscopies, EMR, ESD, proctology treatments, endoscopic laser therapy, ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, and other innovative technologies.
