Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome can occur at any age, but is most common between the ages of 1.5 and 8 years. Boys are more affected than girls.
Сhildhood Nephrotic Syndrome causes protein leak into the urine, because of impaired kidney filtration. Symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are: swelling around child's eyes, belly and legs, high levels of protein in the urine and low blood proteins level.
Nephrotic Syndrome can be the first sign of a disease that damages the kidneys. The diagnosis is made by measurement of protein level in the urine after 24 hours urine collection. In some cases kidney biopsy is made.
In most cases doctor prescribes medication to treat swelling and to stop movement of protein from the blood into the urine.
Most children "outgrow" this disease by their late teens with no damage to their kidneys.
